It is based on studies carried out locally as well as overseas, and includes objective measurements carried out at residences near railway lines as well as subjective evaluations based on social surveys. It also looks at the various factors affecting the annoyance effect of rail noise, the likely sources of noise, methods of reducing the noise as well as the various units currently in use in assessing such noise.
