GALVANOSTATIC PULSE MEASUREMENTS - RAPID ON SITE CORROSION MONITORING

A rapid, nondestructive test method for measuring the corrosion rate of reinforcing steel on site, the galvanostatic pulse technique, is presented. It gives unambiguous results on the corrosion state of the rebars when half-cell potentials are uncertain, the ohmic resistance and the apparent polarization resistance are determined from the evaluation of the transients. The theoretical basis and the experimental details of this rapid non-stationary technique are given. On small laboratory samples the same results for ohmic and polarization resistance as with impedance measurements are obtained. The new technique was tested successfully on site.
