IMPROVEMENT OF HALF-CELL POTENTIAL MEASUREMENT BY USING CSM SOLUTIONS FOR NDE OF REBAR CORROSION

This paper describes the computer-aided CSM (charge simulation method) procedure. The technique determines the electrochemical potentials of concrete in contact with rebar surface analytically from the half-cell potentials measured on concrete surface. The applicability of the technique is investigated by numerical analysis based on the boundary element method. Then, experiments on corroded reinforced concrete beams and slabs are performed. Results show that the estimation by the CSM solution is quite comparable to the ASTM criterion and in good agreement with corrosion measurement by inserted probe.
