GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATIONS FOR DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF AIRFIELD PAVEMENTS

This standard deals with the investigation of sites for assessing their suitability for the construction of airfield pavements and their associated structures (such as culverts, bridges, concrete trunking boxes, maintenance areas, hangers and embankments) and for acquiring the geotechnical and ground contamination characteristics of the site. It does not cover the wider economic issues affecting selection of the site, nor the structural design of the airfield pavement. Sections are included on: objectives of site investigation for new and existing airfield pavements; design standards; sequence of geotechnical investigations; ground investigation and field testing techniques; design of instrumentation and monitoring; reporting requirements; soils classification and evaluation; design parameters; design guidance for various types of subgrade and soils; and aggregates for the construction of pavements (with recommended tests)
