Extensive traffic measurements and surveys were carried out on a roundabout in Dresden to get reliable information about the traff quality and the capacity of roundabouts. The studies showed that empirical investigation results correspond satisfactorily to the theoretical results and that the calculation methods available ar suitable for practical use. The studies of the mentioned roundab with single-lane entries and a single-lane circular roadway showe that, even with a traffic volume of 2500 veh/h, there was still g traffic quality. Based on the investigation results in hand, the capacities of roundabouts with different design were determined a possible operational areas derived with a basic requirement that there is enough space for roundabout design.
