INELASTIC MOMENT REDISTRIBUTION FOR BRIDGES. TECHNICAL NOTE

This technical note describes a simplified procedure for redistribution moments caused by inelastic hinge rotations that accompany shakedown of continuous bridge girders under repeated live loadings. Similar to elastic moment distribution, the elastic moment redistribution procedure differs in that inelastic hinges, not girder joints, are initially held locked and then cyclically unlocked until convergence to shakedown occurs. Residual deformations due to shakedown are computed.
