URBAN TUNNELS FOR LIGHT VEHICLES ONLY - COFIROUTE PROJECTS IN THE ILE DE FRANCE

The concept of an urban tunnel with a small cross section for toll paying for light vehicles only was invented and perfected by the GTM-Entrepose company. The first time it appeared was the LASER project of the underground network below Paris, proposed to the City of Paris by GTM-Entrepose in 1987. This concept was taken up again in two projects studied by COFIROUTE in the Ile de France. With underground roads two problems very frequently encountered in dense urban surroundings can be solved: Continuity of unfinished infrastructure can be provided; and it offers the option of diverting surface traffic toward underground roads.
