ADVANCED ROAD TRANSPORT TECHNOLOGIES AND SAFETY - A CRITICAL REVIEW
Advanced Road Transport Technologies (ATT) are now under development worldwide in a number of large programs. In spite of more than ten active years there is still, however, relatively few numbers of experiences in real world trials of ATT-systems. In this paper, the author has made an analysis of what safety principles should guide the development of ATT-systems, and how the present development of ATT-systems seems to fulfill these safety interests. The main principles identified are: (1) Speed reduction; (2) Simplifying the drivers' task; (3) More time for information collection; (4) Reducing motorized traffic.
