VALIDATION OF AICC STRATEGIES IN ROAD TRAFFIC

An account is given of the SCANeR simulator developed by Renault for the purpose of assessing co-operative driving strategies including Autonomous Intelligent Cruise Control (AICC). The architecture of the system is briefly outlined. The Man-Machine Interface (MMI) is described including details of a) symbols used, b) the cockpit, c) communication systems, d) vehicle dynamics model, e) vehicle positioning, f) the AICC model and g) autonomous traffic generation. The AICC manouvres that can be tested are listed. The use of the system to assess MMI ergonomics and semi-automatic interfaces is discussed.
