REVIEW OF TRANSPORT RESEARCH LABORATORY RESEARCH ON HIGHWAY DRAINAGE

Drainage measures are an important means of ensuring the stability of highways and associated structures. Much of the TRL research on highway drainage has been directed towards examining the field performance of drainage systems, usually over extended periods. This paper describes studies mainly by TRL on edge of pavement drainage, slope drainage, drainage to retaining structures, and drainage blankets. The results are described in relation to current UK practice. (a)
