DEVELOPMENT OF LIFE CYCLE ANALYSES BASED ON PMS DATA

This paper presents the findings of a research study aimed at developing life cycle curves for flexible overlays without and with milling of the existing pavement. In excess of ten years' worth of pavement management data exist for each one of the techniques. Several pavement sections were selected to cover all three districts of the state. The pavement managementdata, environmental factors, traffic loading data, and materials characterisation data were all used to develop life cycle curves for the two techniques. The models are based on advanced statistical analyses which considered all individual factors and any possible interactions among the factors. The models were then verified against actual field data from sections which were not included in the data base used in the model development stage. A total of four performance models were developed which relate the present serviceability index (PSI) over the life of a pavement section with traffic data, environmental factors, and material properties.
