ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF DIMENSIONLESS FAILURE CRITERIA

This technical note briefly discusses Mohr-type failure criteria, a condition for the existence of a Mohr-envelope, and dimensionless forms that are guaranteed to fit rock strength test data regardless of scale. A peculiarity of Bieniawski and Hock-Brown criteria is also noted that suggests an additional restriction on functions used to fit laboratory strength data.
