LOCAL ROAD MAINTENANCE EXPENDITURE IN ENGLAND AND WALES 1992-93

This bulletin contains information on local road maintenance expenditure by local authorities in England and Wales for the financial year 1992-93. Expenditure on trunk roads and motorways is excluded. Table 1 gives total road maintenance expenditure within each local authority, broken down only by road class (principal or other). Tables 2A-3B show expenditure on principal roads alone, broken down by type of maintenance work. Both coarse and fine breakdowns are given. The coarse breakdown shows structural, routine and other maintenance separately. The fine breakdown divides these further showing, for example road construction separately from surface dressing. Tables 4A-5B are similar to 2A-3B, but show expenditure on non principal roads, while 6A-7B give the same breakdowns for all classes combined. Tables 8-12 provide details of expenditure rates (expenditure per kilometer of road, per vehicle-kilometer of travel (principal roads only) and per person residing in the local authority area). Estimates are made based on previous data for seven authorities (North Tyneside, Walsall, Brent, Islington, Lambeth, Sutton and Tower Hamlets) unable to supply information at the time of publication.
