SOLVING CRITICAL CAPACITY PROBLEMS
This short article describes the financing of the new 1300 km high speed railway in the Beijing-Shanghai corridor. The World Bank conducted a Cost-Effective Technology Evaluation (cete) of the line, and brief details of the results of this are provided. The target speeds necessary for the track are discussed, as are the reasons why a high speed line would be the best choice economically as well as being technically feasible.
