GEOSYNTHETIC VERTICAL DRAINS IN ORGANIC SOILS FOR DEEP FOUNDATION IMPROVEMENT, MARCY-UTICA-DEERFIELD EMBANKMENT, USA
This short article describes the use of geotextile vertical strip drains in the construction of an embankment whose foundation soil was highly organic deposit having the consistency of toothpaste. Brief details are provided of: a) the soil profile; b) technical considerations including alternate solutions and the selection criteria for the vertical strip drains; and c) the performance of the embankment over the four stages of construction.
