CIVIL ENGINEERING AT RMCS
The Royal Military College of Science (RMCS) is a Ministry of Defence Establishment whose academic and research functions have been carried out on site by Cranfield University since 1984. The civil engineering activities are the responsibility of the Civil Engineering Group which forms part of the School of Mechanical, Materials & Civil Engineering. The group has a dual role in that it is concerned with both civil engineering education and research, to which may be added its specialist knowledge relating to military engineering applications in support of the Royal Engineers. It is responsible for a BEng degree in Civil Engineering, a MSc degree in Weapons Effects on Structures, a postgraduate Diploma in Transportation Planning & Management, and a specialist course in Blast & Ballistic Loading: Structural Response and Design. In this article, information is given on the research and consultancy interests which range from the repair and strengthening of concrete structures through computational fluid mechanics and terramechanics to the nature and effects of blast loading on structures.
