A RESEARCH PROGRAMME TO IMPROVE THE SAFETY OF DANGEROUS GOODS TRANSPORT IN THE FEDERAL REPOUBLIC OF GERMANY IN THE 1990S
This paper presents the key findings of the interdisciplinary project group which was set up by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) in 1990 in order to determine the research requirements for measures to improve the safety of the transport of dangerous goods. The following problem areas were investigated: risk analysis, rules and regulations, human behaviour in the driver-vehicle-environment context, dangerous goods and their packaging and containment, vehicle engineering including braking and maintenance, and electronic information systems.
