FRENCH POLICY ON ENERGY CONTROL IN FAVOUR OF THE CLEAN AND FUEL EFFICIENT AUTOMOBILE

POLITIQUE FRANCAISE DE MAITRISE DE L'ENERGIE EN FAVEUR DE LA VOITURE PROPRE ET ECONOME

The problematics of the strongly rising activity of road transport (cars and trucks) in industrialized countries is examined in terms of energy consumption, environmental impact and oil product dependence. Urban centers are the focal point of the debate. The three major axes of AFME's policy in the area of transport are mentioned. The main lines of intervention to improve conventional light vehicle technology are then described, including the impact of fuel composition. A number of projects are being implemented in France with the aim of maintaining engine performance over the life-time of vehicles. Choosing a vehicle according to personal needs and utilization pattern is another of AFME's key-pin projects; overall car budgets are calculated and multi-media dissemination is operational. Changes in driving habits are achieved via training projects undertaken with driving schools; "Patte de Velours" is the brand name of the product. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 864909.
