This handbook contains information and practical guidance on the environmental issues likely to be encountered at each stage in the tendering and construction phases of a building or civil engineering project. The work was guided by a Project Steering Group comprising representatives of CIRIA, Building Research Establishment (BRE) and the Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA). The sections are presented in checklist form and comprise: tendering, project planning and contract letting, site set-up and management including traffic management, demolition and site clearance, groundworks, foundations, structural work for building or civil engineering, mechanical and electrical installations and their interface with civil and building work, trades (including joinery, painting, plastering), landscaping, reinstatement and habitat restoration, site reinstatement, handover and guidance on maintenance and records.
