CORRELATION BETWEEN A PLATE BEARING DEVICE AND COMPACTION DOCUMENT SYSTEM IN THE MEASUREMENT OF THE BEARING CAPACITY OF ROAD CONSTRUCTIONS

This report contains a study of two methods of measuring the bearing capacity of road constructions. The correlation between a dynamic modulus of elasticity, measured with a "Compactometer Document System" (CDS), and a static modulus of elasticity, measured with a plate bearing device, has been investigated. The measurements were carried out on terrace surfaces and on reinforcement layers. The correlation between the two methods was, in a statistical approach, poor. It was found that the reinforcement layer reduced, rather than improved, the bearing capacity of the road studied. (A)
