REPORT ON MACHINE OPERATOR EDUCATION FOR THE SCANDINAVIAN EARTH CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

UTBILDNING AV MASKINFOERARE I FINLAND

This report considers the new demands for the professional skills of drivers involved in earth construction, brought about by the integration of Europe and the increasing co-operation between the Nordic countries. A common licence system for driving earth construction machinery could be introduced in the Nordic countries. It would have to comply with the standards used in the European Community. This report describes the present situation in driver education in Finland. Finnish circumstances are compared with those of Sweden and Norway. The report also makes suggestions for measures to promote education and supply of labour in the earth construction industry. The Nordic countries have made a proposals for common standards for the basic education of drivers in earth construction industry. These standards could be used as a framework for a joint Nordic system of licences. For Finland it is important that the driver education given in vocational training centres for adults is kept at the present level. In addition, this study line should also be introduced in vocational schools as soon as possible. This report represents a continuation of the NVF-report 28/1980 Maskinforeropplaering - kartleggning av dagens siguasjon.
