VERIFICATION AND VALIDATION OF THE ADVANCE MOBILE NAVIGATION ASSISTANT
The ADVANCE architecture is composed of four main subsystems, dealing with traffic data collection, traffic data processing functions, communications, and presentation of information to the driver. This last subsystem is based on the use of the ADVANCE Mobile Navigation Assistant (MNA). The MNA unit performs the in-vehicle processing and presents the driver with an interface to ADVANCE functions. It represents a distributed intelligence approach toward trip route planning and vehicle route guidance. This paper describes the initial Verification and Validation (V&V) Plan developed for assessment of the ADVANCE program. The purpose of the V&V Plan is to provide overall evaluation guidelines for use throughout each phase of the ADVANCE project.
