FINAL REPORT - A STUDY OF ISSUES RELATED TO THE IMPOSITION OF SPRING WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS IN THE PROVINCE OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

Highway engineers in Prince Edward Island are annually faced with the problem of spring thaw and its impact on the bearing capacity reduction of pavement surfaces. This strength loss can result in accelerated pavement deterioration and a reduction in useful life. It has been the intent of this project to address the following two objectives: a) determine the consequences of applying alternative spring weight restriction policies in Prince Edward Island; and b) determine the best method of implementing spring weight restrictions annually.
