REAL-TIME FREEWAY RAMP CONTROL EMULATION SYSTEM

This paper describes an innovative IVHS ATMS control emulation system designed to evaluate the real-time interactions of freeway system optimization and ramp control algorithms. This object-oriented, visualization system has implemented the TxDOT standard controller specifications through the "Visual Basic" and Microsoft Windows environment. The client/server design environments allow users to integrate various optimization modules through either stand-alone or networked microcomputer configurations. The system can monitor all the control interactions, collect traffic statistics, and provide real-time measures that allow users to visually examine system performance before field implementation.
