FAST-TRAC PROGRAM SYSTEM INTEGRATION PLANS

The FAST-TRAC IVHS Program was conceived as an operational test of combined advanced traffic management and advanced traveler information systems. The Sydney Co-Ordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) and the Ali-Scout Dynamic Route Guidance System form the basis for the system integration efforts. As the FAST-TRAC Program has evolved, it has become evident that the system integration effort must expand to include other functional components. For example, the arterial network cannot operate as effectively without an interface with the area's freeway control systems. The inverse relationship is also true. In addition, the traffic management challenge includes the interface with other modes of transportation, police agencies and commercial vehicle operators. This system accepts input from a broad array of data generators, manipulates that data input to formulate useful information and disseminates the information over a wide range of media to a variety of users.
