21ST CENTURY TRUCKING - PROFILES OF THE FUTURE. TRUCKING AND U.S. FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION TO THE YEAR 2000
The purpose of this report is: to analyze and identify the significant forces shaping the future of trucking so that executives in all aspects of transportation can make intelligent, informed choices about how to effectively advance their businesses toward and beyond the year 2000. The report is divided into four parts: Part One examines trends in U.S. economic growth through the end of the century and their implications for trucking industry growth over the same period; Part Two examines the implications for trucking of developments in four related transportation sectors: rail freight, intermodal, air cargo, and logistics; Part Three looks at several issues outside the industry that will have a profound influence on trucking through the year 2000 and beyond; and Part Four looks at trucking's future based on interviews with trucking industry chief executive officers and other senior managers, as well as consultants and analysts.
