FIRE TESTS OF CONCRETE BEAMS REINFORCED WITH EPOXY-COATED BARS

This program was carried out to determine the fire endurance of two 12-in. x 14 in. (305 x 356-mm) by 32-ft (9.8-m) long concrete beams reinforced with epoxy-coated bars. Beam A was designed in accordance with the ACI 318-83 provisions whereas Beam B with ACI 318-89 codes. Both beams were made with carbonate aggregate concrete, and subjected to fire tests following the provisions outlined in ASTM E 119. During the fire test the beam was loaded to simulate the end span of a continuous beam, such that the applied moments at mid-span and over the continuous support were equivalent to 40 and 50%, respectively, of the nominal moment strengths at corresponding sections. The measured fire endurances were 2 hours 33 minutes for Beam A and 3 hours 48 minutes for Beam B.
