FULL-SCALE 4,500 LB VEHICLE CRASH TEST ON THE PERMANENT PRECAST CONCRETE MEDIAN BARRIER
One full-scale crash test was conducted on the permanent precast concrete median barrier. Test KCB-1 was conducted with a 4,320 lb (1959.5 kg) test vehicle at 24.4 deg and 59.3 mph (95.4 km/h). The point of impact was located 3 ft (0.91 m) upstream of the center keyway or midpoint of installation. The installation had a total length of 100 ft (30.5 m), consisting of ten 10-ft (3.05-m) precast barrier individual sections. The test was evaluated according to the safety criteria in the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 230. The safety performance of the precast concrete median barrier was determined to be marginal.
