TRANSIT ADA -- TRANSPORTATION IN NON-URBAN AREAS; INVESTIGATING THE IMPACT OF THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT ON RURAL TRANSIT SYSTEMS. FINAL REPORT

The objective of this project is to provide a perspective on the most recent Federal Civil Rights Legislation - the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) - and how it affects non-urban public transportation in Kansas. The first step toward making public transportation fully available to all Americans is to make all transportation systems fully accessible. This report will supplement and serve as an index to the myriad of existing technical assistance documents, pamphlets, checklists, manuals, and guidelines which are available to help individuals and organizations comply with ADA. It also demonstrates how information can be gathered from the 1990 census on characteristics of the population with regard to disabilities and the impact on public transportation. Sample maps and charts are displayed and discussed. Recommendations are made concerning the examination of ADA and its impact on public transportation. An extensive bibliography of available documents is provided.
