PROCEEDINGS OF BRITPAVE SEMINAR 1993. CONCRETE PAVEMENTS. INVESTIGATIVE APPROACH TO STRATEGIC MAINTENANCE

This paper compares the investigative techniques available for monitoring the condition of concrete pavements with those available for flexible pavements. The essential differences are described together with the way in which fatigue influences residual life. Modern techniques, such as Falling Weight Deflectometer and Impulse Radar facilitate the detection of defects at an early stage whilst cost effective maintenance is still viable. Examples of such defects are discussed. (A)
