This paper looks at whole life costing and explores the background to current interest from the Department of Transport's perspective. It describes the development of a computer model for assessing the whole life costs of pavement options and concentrates on practical applications of the model. Finally it considers the implications for the paving industry, something of particular interest to seminar delegates. (A)
