METHODS OF TREATMENT OF UNSTABLE GROUND

Individual chapters, written by specialists, are concerned with methods of treatment that have been adopted by engineers to stabilise ground. Factors to be considered are whether the treatment should be temporary or permanent, whether the ground is waterlogged or lacking in strength, the overriding factor being economics. The topics covered include ground-water control, electro-osmosis and electro-chemical stabilisation, grouting, ground freezing, soil stabilization and vibro-flotation. There is a chapter on ground conditions in mining areas. /TRRL/
