AN INTERNATIONAL SURVEY OF RESEARCH INTO ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE

An international survey of research into road traffic noise has been carried out, by means of a questionnaire, on behalf of Working Group 51 of the CIB (International Council for Building Research). This report summarises the information provided by the individuals and organisations responding to the questionnaire. The purpose of the survey was to provide a broadly based summary of completed and nearly completed research on this topic of and of planned research to provide a basis for the exchange of information and for the planning of future research. It is not claimed that the survey was exhaustive, but it is thought that a substantial proportion of organisations concerned with traffic noise research were requested to give information on their research. To minimize the chance of some organizations being left out of the survey the policy of duplicating requests for information in cases of doubt was adopted. The authors apologise to organisations which, despite their best efforts, were not asked for information. In all above 500 questionnaires were ditributed and about 90 replies were received.
