MEASURED ILLUMINATION CHARACTERISTICS OF THE 1974 HEADLAMPS. PART 1--THE S.A.E. HEADLAMPS

This report discusses the measured illumination characteristics of the S.A.E. headlamps examined in the photometric laboratory at the National Research Council of Canada during 1974. The E.C.E. headlamps considered during 1974 have been discussed in a separate report (cf. reference 1) and thus will not be included in this discussion. The illumination measurement procedure is outlined in order to illustrate the basic form of the illumination data and the transformations which must be applied to them. Various headlamps descriptive characteristics and measurement parameters, necessary for the later utilization of the data, are tabled for future reference. The storage of the illumination dataset for the headlamps is described briefly. The intensity map form of the measured illumination data for the headlamps, which is the preferred form of the data for use in illumination calculations, is described in greater detail. Tables of the range of intensity map values for the various headlamps have been provided and contour plots of the intensity maps for the different groups of headlamps have been collected for future reference.
