COLLABORATION IN THE ENGINEERING CLASSROOM. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by Frantz, Frantz, and DeWolf, published in this journal (Volume 119, Number 3, July 1993), is presented. Firmage compares a University of Connecticut course with a Brigham Young University course, which he teaches on highway bridge design. Firmage writes about the knowledge a graduate engineer must have in his first responsibility in a bridge design office. The discusser also warns against extensive report writing in courses, advocating a more hands-on design project approach. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
