THE CONVERSION OF STANDARD SPEED-FLOW CURVES INTO FLOW-DELAY RELATIONSHIPS FOR USE IN SATURN

In any transportation study the accurate estimation of vehicular speeds is of decisive importance. In this paper, the use of speed-flow relationships in traffic models is addressed. A review of speed-estimation models and flow-delay relationships is presented and a method for transforming speed-flow curves into the equivalent flow-delay curves for use in SATURN is also described. Finally, a method for calibrating standard speed-flow relationships whereby road geometry is explicitly accounted for is introduced.
