MODERNISATION PRECEDES COMMUTER RAIL EXPANSION

This short article describes the modernisation of the Deux Montagnes rail route in Montreal. The total cost is C$250m. The first C$99m contract covers a fleet of 29 two-car EMU's. Brief details of the car design is provided. The track reconstruction required is also described briefly, as is the increase in capacity and patronage forecast. Methods used to improve station and interchange facilities such as park and ride are also presented briefly, as are long term expansion plans.
