RISK EVALUATION AND REALISM

The ordering of our priorities for safety and the proper husbanding of the world's limited resources depend on us having realistic understandings of the multifarious risks surrounding us. Excessive attention to some risks leaves others unattended. What risks matter? How safe should we make society? This paper progresses from everyday short-term risks such as motor accidents to the longer term risks of project management and the evolutionary risks influencing the course of work. (A)
