BUS PASSENGER TRAFFIC TRENDS IN ENGLAND SINCE 1982

This report reviews the trends in bus passenger traffic in Greater London, the Shire Counties and the Metropolitan Areas of England over the ten years since 1982. The effects upon fares, service levels, the economic climate and car ownership upon the level of bus patronage is analyzed and discussed. Special attention is given to an examination of the reasons behind the falling away of bus traffic outside London since deregulation in 1986.
