A KNOWLEDGE-BASED SYSTEM FOR SELECTING EXCAVATION GROUNDWATER CONTROL METHODS

This article describes the GroundExpert intelligent knowledge based system. This system enables a number of relevant parameters for a construction site to be considered against a database of knowledge for 27 groundwater control methods. Both pumping and exclusion methods are covered. The system runs in a HyperCard environment on an Apple Macintosh computer. Details are provided of the system. This includes details of the knowledge base, the method of input, and the different output methods available. The limitations of the system are also presented briefly, as are methods used to test the system's accuracy.
