TRUCK LOAD MODELS FOR AUSTRALIAN BRIDGES

Live load models for bridges derived from the analysis of 697,547 records of trucks collected from a wide variety of Australian sites are presented. This includes statistical distributions of gross laden mass, bending moments and shear forces in bridges with main spans less than 40 m. The average extreme daily events are compared with the T44 design vehicle. This comparison demonstrates that the T44 design vehicle does not consistently represent the effects induced by the traffic for all spans. A 55 t vehicle is derived to represent the average extreme daily effects induced in simply supported and continuous span bridges subjected to general traffic.
