This article describes how a concerted improvement in the quality of bus service on a given route can result in a large increase in traffic. There are six essential components to a quality bus corridor. These components, applied in Dublin on a route from Blanchardstown to the City Center are: alignment, frequency, vehicle quality, staff standards, infrastructure, and traffic management. The delivery of all six components listed creates a quantum leap in the quality of bus services and establishes the bus as a viable provider of mass transit for all including those with the option of travel by car.
