BRINE PRODUCTION, STORING AND DEICING STRATEGY
This paper describes the background of current deicing strategies in Finland and tells how the new brine method can be used and what its limits are. There is an overview of why the reduction of road salt has been important. The new strategy for the reduction of salt is to use only pre-wetted salt and liquid salt whenever feasible. Low volume roads are no longer treated (ATD under 1500-2000). Mixing materials such as fiber glass, stainless and acid-resistant steel and epoxy coated steel and concrete seem to work well but adequate maintenance is just as important.
