PROPOSAL FOR AN OPTO-ELECTRONIC PROCESS FOR DETERMINING THE QUANTITATIVE DISTRIBUTION OF MELTING AGENTS ON PAVEMENT

This process uses a new, non-contact optoelectronic method to determine the quantitative distribution of residual salt (g/m 2) on the roadway. After the thawing agent (NaCl, CaCl 2) is marked with an appropriate chemical agent (here rhodamine B), the fluorescence is measured while radiating the area with a strong light source (e.g., laser or Hg (Xe) lamp). The intensity of the fluorescence is a measure of the amount of thawing agent on the roadway (g/m 2). Principles involved, various tests and the current status of the development are explained in detail.
