AUTOMATIC DATA COLLECTION OF WINTER MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS
The integration of electronic components in the control consoles of winter road maintenance equipment enable these consoles to be used for automatic data acquisition. Not only does this allow an exact determination of all data relating to the winter road maintenance operations, it relieves the drivers from clerical work. The data recorded during the trips are transferred to the PC at the road maintenance center and stored there. They can be used at any time to create documentation, e.g., driving performance, the amount of material spread, and winter road maintenance costs. Findings thus far indicate that despite the costs involved, automatic data acquisition and analysis make winter road maintenance operations more efficient and economical.
