TRUCK REFINISHING: SIZING UP LOW-VOC'S
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is targeting volatile organic compounds (VOC's) for reduction because of their ozone-damaging components. Painting tasks such as truck refinishing will require the use of special spray guns and paints containing minimal solvent. This article reports on the actions of the EPA, including a national rule to ban high-VOC refinishing products by 1996. Low-VOC products and the tools to use them are described in detail. Safety concerns are addressed also. Finally, comprehensive lists supply the names of low-VOC paint makers, high volume/low pressure spray equipment makers, and infrared paint drier makers.
