NOISE BARRIER CONSTRUCTION IN A HIGH WATER TABLE ENVIRONMENT: AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD

Noise barrier construction, using a post and panel design, is a very common practice in the highway traffic noise control process. However, the high water table environment (particularly in south Florida), combined with hurricane strength wind loading requirements, poses a design problem fro structural engineers within the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This paper examines a non-traditional noise barrier design and construction technique used in Florida which is the preferred method in the high water table environment found in much of south Florida.
