FIELD DAY - LEYLAND 31ST MAY 1992

This publication contains a summary of data collected by members of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators, May 1992. Two main events were staged. The first were pedestrian impacts. In this event, a total of 6 tests were conducted at speeds ranging from 24 mph to 42 mph. The following cars were used: a) Allegro; b) Renault 4; and c) Fiat Panda. The vehicles were driven at a dummy suspended by a hook from an overhead gantry. The data collected were: a) initial velocity of car; b) impact velocity; c) braking; d) post impact displacement; e) pedestrian displacement; f) skid test data. The second event was vehicle to vehicle impacts. There were six car to car impacts and one car to lorry impact. The target car was stationary and the 'bullet' vehicle was radio controlled to impact from a following vehicle. Impacts varied from nearside, offside, rear and head on. The following data were collected: a) type and weight of car; b) post impact displacements; c) impact velocity; and d) damage, as calculated by the Edcrash program.
