MVMA NATIONAL FUEL SURVEY 1974-1975 SUMMARY AND TRENDS
Test results for gasoline sample "at the pump" are provided for periods designated summer, fall, winter and spring. The marketers samples, cities surveyed, and pick-up dates for samples are listed and the total number of marketers and samples are tabulated. Gasoline, including no-lead gasoline, was plentiful and readily available in 23 cities surveyed. The seasons and number of samples of each gasoline tested during 1974-1975 are also tabulated. Except for Premium No-Lead, only three grades of gasoline are being sold by the major marketers at the present time. The gasolines tested under the grades indicated were either assinged grades by the marketers, or designated according to ASTM D-439-74 "Standard Specification for Gasolines". The tests carried out, the procedures employed and the testing season are tabulated. The tests performed, covered the following distillation, RVP, V;L (calc) specific gravity, Pb, S, P, Trace metals, FIA, octane no., MION, RON and existent gum. Arithmetical averages for tests carried out are appended, as are also the weighted averages for summer and winter RON MION (R@M);2 and lead content. Trends for octane numbers, T (OF) at V;L = 20, lead values, and sulfur content for 3 major grades of gasoline are are graphically represented. Premium grade leaded gasoline shows a decrease in average octane numbers and a rapid increase in lead content for the summer season with a subsequent decrease for winter samples. The trends for regular grade gasoline are very similar to the premium gasolines except for a slight increase in sulfur content in the summer. Comments are also made on RON values for no-lead gasoline.
