DOT TUNNELING METHOD AND SELECTION OF THE SHIELD TUNNELING METHOD FOR THE NEW TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IN HIROSHIMA

The DOT Tunneling Method, developed to meet the demand for efficient use of the underground space in large cities, is a construction method of an overlapping multiple circular tunnel using a multiple-face earth pressure-balance shield machine with cutters on the same plane. The New Transportation System in Hiroshima: Rijoh Shield Tunnel Construction Project will be carried out using the DOT Tunneling Method (overlapping double circular tunnel, horizontal configuration). It will ensure the stability of the cutting face at a shallow construction depth and the isolation of the tunnel under construction from existing structures.
